My fascination with photography began in my mid-20s. At the time, I lived in Colorado with my husband. I had many opportunities to take pictures of the gorgeous environment in Colorado. My eye has always been drawn not to dramatic landscapes, but to tiny succulents growing in a crevice, or wee mushrooms in a log. As a doula and midwife's assistant, I also frequently found myself taking photos at births, capturing details of a newborn's features. Once I had my own two children, of course, my interest grew to creating images with them. My skills grew through both formal classes and workshops and independent study.
I have been the Director of Photography and photographer for PLY Magazine since its inception in 2013. Around that time I also attended several workshops and intensives focusing on newborn photography. I began my newborn photography journey with only a few props, shooting in my clients' homes. I learned much and honed my skills until 2017 when I had the opportunity to share studio space with a local newborn photographer. Now I am delighted to host families in a dedicated newborn studio, with everything we need at arm's reach.
I live in Lee's Summit with my husband and two children, ages 14 and 13, one dog, two cats, and three mice. In my free time I love to knit luxury newborn props for my own studio and for other photographers.
